Cause-and-effect learning involving negative physical consequences is actually contrasted, as a method, with listening to instruction – e.g.:
Proverbs 17:10
10 Rebuke is more effective for a wise man
Than a hundred blows on a fool.
Verbal instruction how to avoid the hundred blows is that we get from Daddy God; hundred blows is what life often administers to us if we ignore the instruction. One method allows us to avoid the experience and comes from a place of trust, the other is to learn from it and comes from a place of trial.
